HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Computer Science programme of Kano University of Science and Technology commenced in the year 2000/2001 as one of the pioneer programmes in the University. During 2003/2004 the Department was merged with the then Mathematics Department, to form the Department of Mathematical Sciences. In 2011, the Department of Mathematical Sciences was split into three (3) Departments, with the Department of Computer Science being re-established. The Department achieved interim accreditation in 2005 and full accreditation in 2007 In 2013, the Department equally scored an Interim Accreditation. Students from the programme have participated in National Software and IT Competitions and emerged the overall Second Best in 2008 at University of Benin, First Position in 2010 at Federal University of Technology Akure and in July 2011 they emerged as the overall best in the Olatunji Odegbami National IT Competition for Tertiary Institutions organized by the Nigerian Computer Society
